Our lead mason is an authorized installer of Jahn Restoration Mortars and has extensive experience in commercial and residential masonry restoration projects.

What is Repointing?

Repointing is the process of renewing mortar joints in masonry construction. Over time, weathering and decay causes voids in the joints between masonry units (usually bricks) allowing the undesirable ingress of water. Water entering through these voids can cause significant damage through freeze/thaw cycles and from dissolving salts and salt deposits. Repointing is also called pointing, or pointing up” Repointing is a critical maintenance task and keeps water from entering the brick wall cavity. If water is allowed to get past the mortar and into the wall brick failure may occur such as cracking or spalling (popping off of the brick face).
